University Representative Mary Ellen Jones presented a really incredible workshop about how teachers and college students could reduce their debt after college. The information and resources she provided were incredibly helpful, timely, and needed. Many non-SPSEA member also benefited as the handouts she provided were shared with other students, faculty, and staff provided useful information for them, as well.

At our annual Activities Fair, SPSEA sells raffle tickets for a chance to win an on-campus parking pass good for the entire year. Our chapter earned $70 in profits that were all donated to PACE. The lucky winner of the parking pass this year was Michelle Etling. Congratulations!

Students gathered together in our Hempfield room for a workshop to learn about how politics play a role in education. Guest speaker, Pennsylvania Representative Mike Reese, a Republican who represents part of Greensburg, informed students on the different ways that politics affect education, including current events and how school taxes are applied. Student were encouraged to vote during all elections for the future of education.

Emotions ran high after the 2016 Presidential election, so our SPSEA chapter brought in guest speaker, Mary Ellen Jones, PSEA University Representative, to teach our aspiring educators how to effectively reach all students after the comments that were made following the election. The goal of this workshop was to teach our students how to teach their students equality, develop empathy and kindness in all students, bring unity when possible, and provide ways to move past the election so that the learning environment could be effectively re-established.

Educational Workshop
Each year, SPSEA members knock visit each dorm across campus and knock on doors offering candy and reminding everyone to vote. We encourage students to consider voting for pro-education candidates, but more so encourage them to have a voice. This year was an important year for it was our 2016 Presidential Election which has great impact on our future as educators.

In late September, our Pitt-Greensburg PACE Chair, Andrew McDonald, recruited a few other members to help him register Pitt-Greensburg students to vote, find their polling places, and/or to assist with getting absentee ballots. Happily, most Pitt-Greensburg students were already registered, but many needed to change polling places or get absentee ballots.
